Misterio

Once again I am sorry that I am writing this in English but my written Portuguese is not good at all. In my husband's family history is this paragraph. I wonder if anyone knows what happened during the French invasions in the area mentioned, Paradinha, which is near Moimenta da Beira.
A cousin wrote the following;
I don't know the surname of these two sisters but it could have been Motta, Justina never married and Leopoldina had children and lived until she died in Santa Leocadia, at the Pinto family home. Much later her grandchild was playing with a candle and the house burnt down and was never rebuilt. Some jewellery and silver were saved but the rest was burnt to the ground.

Cara/o MENARUE,
Seria a mesma pessoa?
Atenciosamente,
FREDERICO

Thank you so much. This is very interesting. I know all these places well and I have wondered what damage and destruction was done. I am going to read this very carefully. My husband's two grandfathers both maternal and paternal were at the Colegio da Lapa with Aquilino Ribeiro. The maternal grandfather was a close friend of his from their days at Lapa.
YOu have been a great help and this is very interesting.
Menarue (Maureen).

Somehow I don't think this is the same person but it is a coincidence that another family name is Montenegro. The Captain I mentioned had a brother called Joaquim but I doubt he ever left for Brazil but if I hear anything I will definitely let you know.
