#91465 | Justin Case | 21 mag 2005 16:34

Good Evening

My wife has a Portuguese surname, SOEIRO, and she told me that her Portuguese familly comes from a city in the center of Portugal called Tomar. Can someone help me to find my wife's ancestrys?

Sorry to write in English but my Portuguese is very poor.

Kind Regards

Justin

You would be a very lucky person if you find some Soeiro from Tomar that could be your wife's relative.
Soeiro is a christian name, sometimes took as surname, patronimic is Soares, much more common, as of our former President.
Did you search on the green bar on the top of this page, writing Soeiro on the space of "Pesquisar"?
Better to meke some research and then take the data from your parents in law or from the ones who came from Portugal or the closest possible and post them here.
Anyway, good luck!

Dear VF

My Mother in Law's name was Alicia Soeiro Douglas. Her Parents were Dores Soeiro and Michael Edward Smith Douglas. Can you help with those clues?

Of course not my friend ... I'm very sorry for that.
Did you do what I have said?
Nothing?
Well, go to the Institution that has the task of register the imigrants in the country you'r writting from. Only them can give you dates' clues or other info.

Dear Justin,

According to the book, European Roots in Botswana, from Thomas Seagall, there is a family Soeiro, who went to this country in the late 19. century, 1813 for certain.
Capt. Soeiro was born in Tomar, in 1783, and died in Africa in 1853, leaving quite a lot of descendants, from is marriage with Butoli Rwangada Soeiro, in 1820.
I am quiet certain, that there is a link between the Soeiro from Botswana, and the Soeiro family from Tomar.

Best Regards

And its not very old in what way? By male ? well the oldest, generaly, in Gernany and documented they go about 900 years, mine goes to 500! do you think thats short?

Best regards,

Vasco

Ian,

I have reasons to doubt.
In the page 335 of the same book, it is writen, that Captain Soeiro, was not married with that woman, she was is lover, it is writen in black and white, and all the childrens were simply bastards, because he never recognise them.
He was married with Maty Oldschanp, born in South Africa, from german parents, and from her, he had a child, Mathias Oldschanp Soeiro.
Mathias is my cousin in 6 degree, and he was a good german.

Komplimente

Hi Vasco

In my humble opinion a genealogy to be old has to have at least 750 years. So your's genealogy is quite new.

Kind Regards
