Hi,

My English is not very good, but i gonna try to do it right.

First, you must know the exact dates of your grandparent's births, weddings or burials.

If the dates are after the Portuguese Republic Revolution, in 1910, these documents are available in one of Madeira's "Conservatórias do Registo Civil".
The only way to find out which "conservatória" is, is to phone them (use the portuguese yellow pages site: www.paginasamarelas.pt to know the number).

When you found out which one of them is the one, you must ask for one of your grandparent's regist, providing the "freguesia" (Canhas?), the date, and the name.

In other hand, if the dates are before 1910, the only way to find the data is to go to the "Arquivo Distrital da Madeira".

Maybe a person from Madeira could help you. (don't look at me ... i'm from oporto ;)

Sempre às ordens,

Diogo Fernandes

P.s. - i hope that this letter makes sence
